Preparing to introduce Rodeo Royalty

The 50th annual Pioneer Days Rodeo in Clovis, New Mexico kicked off with a community breakfast Friday, June 3rd at the Brick Street Warehouse.

The Pioneer Days Rodeo started Thursday night after a two-year hiatus, and Friday morning the 2020-22 State Fair Queen Deanne Guthrie was on hand along with the Rodeo Princesses and Queens to officially kick things off.

Tristyn McDaniel, a former Rodeo Queen who just completed her second year of law school was on stage introducing community leaders at the breakfast and acted as emcee.

The ladies involved in becoming Rodeo Royalty toured the different events around the city during the Rodeo, all of them acting as community goodwill ambassadors.

In addition to the Rodeo Queens, former royalty made an appearance at the breakfast as well! Shalei Bennett, former Rodeo Queen, was joined by her daughter, Landry Bennett, who is a National Qualifier in Jr. High Rodeo in Barrel Racing.

As the event ended, and the Royal Court prepared to be shuttled around the city to different events, McDaniel took a moment to speak with Lilly Gonzalez, the Little Buckaroo Jr. Princess.

While their conversation was personal, it was obvious McDaniel was sharing some wisdom and encouragement from her time as Rodeo Royalty, and Ms. Gonzalez seemed to appreciate it.

That moment highlighted what the entire weekend was about; people in Clovis are proud of their community, and the whole community came together to celebrate the return of the Rodeo. Former Rodeo Queens supporting and encouraging younger ones, a community breakfast, the Mayor, and… neighbors. Clovis is a community where people look out for their neighbors and take pride in their community. It’s one of many reasons Pattern Energy is proud to support their neighbors in Clovis, and that community spirit is a big part of what makes Pioneer Days so special.
