Beer samples at Sidetrack Brewing. So. Many. Choices.

It was warm outside, the sun was shining, and I was supposed to catch up with a buddy. He texted, “Hey, want to get a beer at Sidetrack?”

Fast forward and I was explaining to the bartender, Amanda, that I was new to Sidetrack as she stared at me like I should know what I wanted. She replied, “I didn’t realize I was going to have to hold your hand. Wait here, new guy.”

Sassiness delivered with a laugh, she returned with a sampling of Sidetrack’s different brews and I had to make a choice.

The cyclists kept showing up to enjoy some ABQ local brews.

I went with the, Basecamp IPA, which Sidetrack calls, “extremely crushable.” They didn’t lie; it was great.

As you can see, things on the beer patio seemed practically normal. Bartenders were giving me good-natured grief, the sun was shining, people riding bikes kept showing up and…

It felt good to be outside in nice weather, socializing.

…it felt normal, New Mexico. It felt good to be out, doing normal things around other people — safely, of course.

Since I am still mostly new to New Mexico, I started thinking about the state’s excellent reputation regarding microbrews, and realized I am fairly ignorant to everything out there.

If you any of you have recommendations about what New Mexican-brewed beer I should try, please Iet me know!

In all, it was a fantastic late afternoon out in the city.
